Sustainability – SÜDPACK at FachPack

SÜDPACK will be dedicated to the issue of sustainability at this year’s FachPack. The technology and innovation leader in the field of high-performance films was one of the first manufacturers to resolutely concentrate on the development of sustainable film solutions, in particular for the food, medical product, and non-food industries. Within the framework of its sustainability roadmap, the company is continuing the gradual expansion of its product and performance portfolio.

A main focus at the exhibition will be the recyclable mono-materials used in the innovative Pure-Line product family, which are also pioneering in terms of material efficiency and have been distinguished with numerous top awards in the industry. The Pure-Line offers solutions made of PP, PE, and PET, which are classified as recyclable in many countries. It is possible to optimally design the material structures to meet the requirements of a broad variety of applications. The spectrum ranges from thermoforming films to lidding films and high-barrier films for the production of doypacks.

SÜDPACK is also expecting a great deal of interest among visitors in its Multipeel resealing systems. This packaging concept is of particular importance for sausage, cold cuts, and cheese slices as it offers not only maximum convenience for consumers, but also prolongs the shelf life of food products, which in turn reduces food waste. The reliable Multipeel product family has now been extended to include recyclable structures in order to meet the market demand for recyclable packaging concepts in this area as well.

The resealable polypropylene Multipeel PurePP, for example, has been certified by the independent certification body cyclos-HTP Institute as having a recyclability of up to 95 percent. Thanks to long-standing expertise in the extrusion of resealing systems, the entire Multipeel family provides a high level of process reliability and optimal protection for the packaged products.

With SPQ technology, all designs are automatically and reliably set up using a standardised colour palette. This provides numerous advantages, such as reduced set-up time – an aspect that has a particularly positive effect when dealing with frequently changing batches. Colour stability makes potential printing adjustments and on-site print approval obsolete, and the amount of material needed for proofs is minimised.

Said Malte Rahneberg, Sales Manager Germany, SÜDPACK: “Thanks to SPQ, the previous conflict between efficiency and quality in the field of flexo printing has now been solved. We are extremely pleased about being able to put this sustainable and high-quality printing process on the market in the months to come.”

Last but not least, SÜDPACK will be presenting the various facets involved in the implementation of a circular economy for flexible packaging. The film manufacturer is working intensely on the further development of concepts that contribute to closing loops in order to minimize the use of fossil-based raw materials in film production. One targeted approach is chemical recycling, which is a high-temperature process that converts plastic waste into valuable resources that are then available in virgin-grade quality at the beginning of the process chain. In collaboration with its project partner Recenso, SÜDPACK is focusing all of its efforts on gaining recognition of this process as a complementary recycling alternative – and has already implemented pioneering projects that have garnered much attention from the media.

SÜDPACK gives a good overview of its various initiatives, measures, and objectives in its Progress Report on the 2020 Sustainability Report, which will be officially presented at FachPack. The voluntarily published report transparently communicates the progress made in 2020 in the fields of environment, economy, and social responsibility. The report outlines the current challenges in the market and presents the most relevant sustainability initiatives of the SÜDPACK company group.  For more visit SÜDPACK on stand 224 in hall 7 or at suedpack.com
