French dairy cooperative Sodiaal is accelerating its commitment to reduce its climate footprint and aims to set new targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by the end of 2022.

The cooperative has already been committed to reducing its CO2 emissions for several years. For example, 77% of farmers (7,000) have carried out a determination of their carbon footprint. In order to identify levers for reducing greenhouse gases, Sodiaal has co-financed 2,300 in-depth audits that have led to the creation of farm-specific action plans. 225 farms have committed to reducing their carbon footprint in a five-year plan, which includes issuing and selling carbon credits.

“We want to deepen our comprehensive approach to dairy farm conversion, especially in terms of carbon storage and biodiversity conservation. We have one year to submit reduction targets. Our cooperative model and our integrated value chain from upstream to downstream is a strength to accompany this transition at all stages of the chain and make it a lever for value creation,” says Jean-Pierre Faucon, Sodiaal board member and CSR officer.
